A surprise appearance by Mariah Carey should have been a welcome treat for MTV's TRL any day of the week, but the pop diva's summer 2001 pop-up on the show proved to be nothing but confusing and more than a little shocking to viewers and host Carson Daly. Wearing little more than a t-shirt and pushing an ice cream cart full o' frozen treats, Mariah came into the studio and said she longed for "one day off when I can go swimming and eat ice cream and look at rainbows." And then she proceeded to strip down to a skimpy tank top. Needless to say, it was much less surprising when, less than a week later, Mariah checked into a hospital, citing the celeb meltdown catch-all, "exhaustion."
