Celestia? Daughter of God?
Fresno?! Those were the ramblings of
Men in Trees star
Anne Heche after she and girlfriend
Ellen DeGeneres broke up in August 2000. The two issued an announcement on Aug. 19 of that year stating that they were amicably ending their three-year, uber-public, love affair. But that same day, Heche was hospitalized in Fresno, California, after her car broke down and she wandered a mile in 90-degree heat to a rural house and began babbling incoherently to the owner. The occupant called the local sheriff, and Heche, wearing only a bra, shorts and shoes, told the officer that she was God and "was going to take everyone back to heaven with her...on some sort of spaceship." After the incident, Heche wrote in her autobiography (aptly titled
Call Me Crazy) that, as a result of childhood sexual abuse—by her father, who was gay and gave her herpes—she had developed an alter ego, named Celestia, who was the daughter of God.
