Any kind of excessive activity from a challenging workout to lifting heavy objects around the house, to unusually heightened sexual activity, can trigger a migraine. Even more strange, a difficult bowel movement can prompt an attack. If you allow yourself to get too hungry or too physically tired, you can also initiate a migraine. Smoking can also instigate a migraine.
It's important to moderate your physical activities to avoid these triggers. For example:
When changing your exercise routine, only add a few additional plates or weights at a time and move up only one level at a time on aerobic equipment. In general, don't overdo it.
Ask for assistance or defer to others when it comes to heavy lifting.
Eat a high-fiber diet and hydrate adequately to avoid constipation.
Don't leave too large a gap between meals.
If you quit smoking, don't quit cold turkey. Have a doctor develop a plan because an abrupt withdrawal could also trigger a migraine.
