Recommendation: Among women age 30 and older, HPV infections are rarer, yet more persistent. Your doctor may recommend the HPV test following a Pap test, or in conjunction with the Pap test.
Frequency: Beginning at age 30, if you've had three consecutive clear Pap smears, testing can be scaled back to every two or three years. (Women over age 70, who've had three normal Pap results in a row and no abnormal tests in 10 years, may opt to stop cervical cancer testing entirely.)
