The Bitter Truth About Artificial Sweeteners
Sweet Tips

Aspartame shot to fame because it's a virtually calorie-free alternative to sugar, but it's not the only low-cal way to sweeten your coffee and tea.

Check out these artificial sweeteners that don't contain aspartame:

  • Saccharin (found in Sweet'N Low, Sweet Twin and Necta Sweet)
  • A few studies have also made a connection between high doses of saccharin and cancer in rats but, like aspartame, the FDA considers the sweetener safe for normal use.

  • Acesulfame-K (found in Sunett and Sweet One)
  • Neotame (found mostly in processed foods)
  • Sucralose (found in Splenda)
