A mammogram is your best early alert for breast cancer. To get the most accurate results, make sure your doctor knows about your family's history of breast cancer, hormone use and, of course your full medical history. This includes any breast problems you've experienced and past surgeries (even implants). Let your doctor know if you are menstruating or have started menopause.
Here are some other do's and don'ts to be familiar with before prepping for your next test:
Don't wear deodorant, talcum powder or lotion the day of your exam as they could be mistaken for calcium spots
Don't forget to mention if you're pregnant or nursing
Do bring previous mammogram results to the exam. Try to request them two weeks in advance. If the results are digital you may be able to get them sooner
Do find out when your results will be available and follow up with your doctor at that time
Do find a doctor experienced in doing exams on women with breast implants if you've had enhancement surgery
