Connecticut is known for its rich history, charming villages and steepled churches, but you can also find a modern architectural marvel in New Canaan. It took 50 years to complete the
Philip Johnson Glass House, an incredible experiment in radical new architectural ideas, forms and material. This fascinating house was finished in 1949 and is made of glass and steel, with no interior walls. It's also the newest
National Trust Historic site. You can
sign up for a tour online, which includes access to the Glass House as well as Mr. Johnson's painting gallery and studio. Tickets for the 90-minute tour are $25; it is recommended for children 10 and above.
