iVillagers: "We have a hallway that we have designated as a book drop zone. In there we have three racks of coat hooks that we use for jackets and for hanging library book bags, umbrellas and school backpacks. We also have a step stool in there which the top folds open and holds a week's worth of socks and a shoe cubby organizer to avoid lost shoes. When the kids get home they hang up their coats; put their shoes in the cubby and hang up their backpacks." -- 2plustrio
"When you come into our house through the garage, you enter the laundry room, where we have 3 hooks (3 prongs on each) at different heights -- one for each child. My kids immediately put their backpacks/lunchboxes, sweaters, jackets, or raincoats on these hooks. Shoes also go in a designated spot! I hate hearing "mom I can't find my shoes/sweater/backpack" in the midst of morning rush. This was the first year I put up the hooks and they have been a lifesaver to say the least." -- hallemom
Jamie Novak, Real Organizing for Real People: "Create an area in your entryway (nearest the door you use most often) for everyday life accessories (keys, cell phone and charger, bills to be mailed, etc.). An over-the-door clear plastic shoe holder makes a perfect storage spot for these items. (Use lower pockets for small children so they can get their own belongings.)"
